Getting Older...

Isn't what it's cracked up to be. Does anyone really age gracefully? Most of my life I've heard references to "gravity". Well, I figured out what that meant at the age of thirteen when I had to start buying D-cup bras with the wide straps. It started there but one day I was looking in the mirror after my shower and to my dismay discovered my butt had fallen. No one told me that would happen!

As each year passes I notice more things "falling" on my body. My face has definitely changed as those lines of wisdom have pulled my mouth downward. For the first time in my life I have a double chin, which I suspect used to be part of my face. The flesh on my upper arms have fallen. My belly is in my lap. If the madness doesn't stop I won't be able to see my feet!

To add insult to injury I need glasses to find my glasses. Speaking of glasses, some of you can relate to this. I have a pair in my purse, a pair at my desk at work, a pair next to my computer and a pair next to my chair in the living room. I used to laugh at my hubby for that but now I see the wisdom of it.

I move slower, too, and seem to be a little less graceful. Just in the last couple of months I've fallen twice. Okay, it wasn't my fault I didn't see the hole when I stepped out of the car. It was covered with grass for goodness sake! The second time was because the side walk was uneven. Wouldn't you know I hurt the same darn foot twice!

This morning my hands are stiff and ache. Is that a sign of arthritis? I'm too young for that! Maybe it's the chill in the air. For the first time this winter season we're having some decent, winter temperatures. I opened the house up last night to enjoy the crisp cold air and nearly froze my butt off. But wait...nope! Unfortunately it's still there. Well, not where it used to be but if I hold it up a little I can still see it in the mirror.

All in all I'm enjoying life and have much to be thankful for. I'm really not that old, but I guess having a much older hubby makes me feel his age more than mine at times. I'll certainly be prepared when I reach his age:)

Don't feel sorry for us ageing folks. You'll be in the club some day, too.

Congratulations Ruth, you're a winner! Contact me to claim your books.

Oh my gosh, Debbie, you make me laugh!

Hey, do you remember the old commercial where the elderly woman says, "I've fallen and I can't get up?" I wonder if she meant more than she'd lost her balcance? Maybe some other things had fallen, too? ;-)

Thanks for the morning smile.

That is so funny but I am able to identify with it.

I say to my neighbour, wouldn't it be great if you could get a hold on the skin at your legs and pull it all up, tying it up on top of your head! Everything seems to go south so quickly.
I particularly notice that where young people in any service industy are, I am the invisible woman, this really get me mad. Then of course when you are complaining about something, they think you got it wrong because you are "old" We have a programme here called "Grumpy Old Women (and men) and boy do I identify with those girls.

I remember that commercial! In fact, I still see it once in a while. The acting stinks:)

Hey Margaret, I thought that's how they do face lifts! LOL

Too funny! But we are all better writers than we used to be no matter what is sagging.

Getting older is no fun so I quit getting older. I use an inverted hanger assembly to hang upside down to let gravity work. One hour per day to let the blood flow back to my brain. It seems to work. Trouble is I need a come-a-long to hoist my sorry ole butt out of that position. That will not stop me from using it. I used to have the chesterdrawer syndrome, you know where you chest drops to your drawers. The way I figure it, I stay busy and keep my mind active and here's the best part, I'm old enough so I don't care and can get away with it. Hang in there, after a couple of glasses of wine, you don't need glasses, as you'll be in that grope and hope phase. Been there done that and have the trifocals to prove it!

Say it isn't so. It's too bad our bodies don't get better the older we get. I think when we're younger we don't appreciate the ease of our youthfulness. I certainly would appreciate a flatter tummy these days!! If only I had the energy I had in my teens I could do something about it!!

I was prepared for the sagging. I mean... gravity will do it's thing. But hello... the gray hair... it showed up in places I wasn't expecting! No one mentioned that would happen! *vbg*

OMGosh!!!!!!

I am laughing soooooooo hard after reading the posts from ironeyes and Nina!!!!!!!!!

I have always said that the elementary school I went to only taught me to count from 1 to 29 -- have NO IDEA of anything after that -- sooooooo, I am PERPETUALLY 29!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, my oldest son will be 41 in March -- WHAT THE HECK IS 41??????

Even though I have been told many times that I don't look my age - there are so many days when I FEEL my age and no I don't mean 29!!!

Of course, I'm just grateful to wake up every morning and not to have any more health concerns than the day before. So, I suppose we shouldn't complain.

But, I REALLY WOULD LIKE my 29 year old body BACK.!!!!!!

I find it amazing that when we are young we can't wait to hit 21 so we can do all the things we couldn't before and then we hit 30, 40, and up and wish we could be 21 again. I am 65 and still feel like I did at 21 in my head that is, just have to tell my body it is too, but it never listens. If you are in dought of what you will look like as you get older just look at your parents and say that is me and it is coming soon story. Happy Holiday to all. Anne
